Description

Delightfully crispy and lightly sweetened apple chips made effortlessly in the air fryer, flavored with a warm cinnamon sugar coating. A perfect healthy snack or dessert that’s easy to prepare and full of autumnal flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 medium apples (any variety, such as Fuji or Granny Smith)

Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a mandolin slicer or a sharp knife, slice the apples into very thin slices about 1/8 inch thick. Remove the core and seeds if preferred for easier eating.
  2. Make the cinnamon sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt if using. Mix well to create the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Coat the apple slices: Lay the apple slices on a clean working surface and lightly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over both sides of each slice. Alternatively, place the slices in a bowl and toss gently to evenly coat all slices.
  4. Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes to ensure even cooking from the start.
  5. Air fry the apple chips: Arrange apple slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap to allow proper air circulation. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until the chips turn golden brown and are crisp. Watch carefully towards the end to avoid burning.
  6. Cool and serve: Remove the apple chips from the air fryer and let them cool for several minutes. The chips will become even crispier as they cool. Serve immediately for best texture, or store in an airtight container for up to one week.

Notes

  • Use a mandolin slicer for uniformly thin slices to ensure even cooking.
  • Adjust cooking time slightly depending on apple variety and thickness of slices.
  • Store leftover apple chips in an airtight container to keep them crispy.
  • You can omit the salt if desired, especially for a sweeter snack.
  • Try experimenting with different spices like nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice for variation.
