Description

This Easy Skillet Lasagna is a quick and delicious one-pan Italian-inspired meal perfect for busy weeknights. Combining tender bowtie pasta with savory sausage, ground beef, rich cheese, and flavorful spaghetti sauce, it mimics classic baked lasagna without the oven and layered assembly. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s an effortless comfort food that the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pasta

  • 8 oz bowtie pasta

For the Meat Sauce

  • ½ lb sausage
  • ½ lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 (24-oz) jar spaghetti sauce

For the Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • â…” cup ricotta cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the bowtie pasta according to the package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Brown the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage and lean ground beef. Cook, breaking the meat apart, until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat, then return the meat to the skillet.
  3. Add Aromatics and Sauce: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the spaghetti sauce and sprinkle in the dried basil. Add the shredded mozzarella and ricotta cheese directly to the skillet and stir thoroughly to combine with the meat and sauce.
  4. Combine Pasta and Simmer: Add the cooked bowtie pasta to the skillet and stir well to coat all the noodles evenly with the cheesy meat sauce. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, to meld the flavors and gently thicken.
  5. Serve: If desired, top with additional mozzarella or Parmesan cheese. Serve the skillet lasagna hot and enjoy a comforting, hearty meal with minimal cleanup.

Notes

  • You can substitute bowtie pasta with penne or rotini if preferred.
  • For a spicier dish, add crushed red pepper flakes when adding garlic.
  • Use low-fat ricotta and mozzarella to reduce fat content.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings using a bigger skillet or pan.
