Ingredients
Scale
Jelly Base
- 3 cups Mountain Dew soda
- 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Optional Garnish
- Gummy candies or small fruit pieces
Instructions
- Bloom the Gelatin: In a small bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold Mountain Dew soda. Let it sit for 5 minutes to absorb the liquid and soften.
- Dissolve Sugar in Soda: In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining 2 1/2 cups of Mountain Dew and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved, but make sure the mixture does not come to a boil to preserve the soda’s flavor.
- Add Gelatin Mixture: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until it is completely dissolved. Then, add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Pour and Garnish: Pour the mixture into a 9×9-inch dish or individual molds. If you like, add gummy candies or small pieces of fruit before the jelly sets to add texture and color.
- Chill to Set: Refrigerate the jelly for at least 4 hours, or until firm. Once set, cut into squares or unmold and serve chilled for a delightful dessert experience.
Notes
- For a firmer jelly texture, increase the gelatin to 4 tablespoons.
- Avoid boiling the soda to maintain its flavor integrity.
- This jelly makes a fun and unique dessert option for parties, especially during warm weather.
