Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 sheet of puff pastry or flatbread
Toppings
- 2 pears, thinly sliced
- 4 oz (120g) Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts
- A handful of arugula leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Optional Substitutions
- Swap Gorgonzola with goat cheese or blue cheese
- Use pecans instead of walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) so it’s ready to bake the flatbread to a golden, crispy perfection.
- Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to an even thickness, and place it on a baking sheet. If using flatbread instead, lay it directly on the baking sheet without rolling.
- Drizzle Olive Oil: Evenly drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the puff pastry or flatbread base to add moisture and help achieve a beautiful golden crust.
- Arrange the Pear Slices: Thinly slice 2 pears and arrange the slices overlapping across the entire surface of the base for even coverage and balance with the cheese.
- Scatter the Cheese: Sprinkle 4 oz (120g) of crumbled Gorgonzola cheese evenly over the layered pears, distributing the cheese flavor throughout the flatbread.
- Bake: Place the flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted and slightly bubbly.
- Final Touches: Remove the flatbread from the oven and immediately drizzle 1/4 cup (60ml) honey over the top. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts, a handful of fresh arugula leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste for a finishing burst of flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute Gorgonzola with goat cheese or blue cheese for different flavor profiles.
- Use pecans in place of walnuts if desired.
- Ensure pears are thinly sliced to help cook evenly during baking.
- For a crispier crust, place the flatbread on a preheated baking stone or steel if available.
- Serve immediately after adding honey and toppings for the best texture and flavor contrast.
